Macros (macronutrients) are the nutrients your body needs in significant amounts - carbs, protein and fats - that provide your body with the calories it needs to function daily. The USDA recommends your diet consist of 45-65% carbs, 10-35% protein and 20-35% fat. Once you determine your fitness goals - lose fat, gain lean muscle or bulk up - managing your macros will help you to achieve them. There is no one size fits all, your physical activity plays an important role in your macro intake. So how do you figure out what macro percentages you need? First, determine the calories you need to maintain your weight. There are several online calorie calculators that you can use. I like the one on www.acefitness.org for ease. Once you have your caloric intake, apps such as MyFitnessPal, MyPlate or MyMacros will help you adjust your macros efficiently. Remember - quality beats quantity! Carbs from sweet potato trumps carbs from potato chips. #acefitness #myfitnesspal #myplate #mymacros #fitlifestyle #lovemefit#eattolive
