5 Lessons I Wish More Women Believed About Themselves

In honor of International Women's Day, I’ve been reflecting on the lessons life teaches us as women.
Not just about health or fitness, but about becoming more fully authentic.
We have spent decades showing up for everyone else: building careers, raising families, caring for loved ones, often putting our own needs and voices last.
But then somewhere along the way, especially in midlife, something shifts.
Here are five lessons I want more women to believe about themselves in midlife.g
1. Your Voice Matters
We have been conditioned to keep our opinions to ourselves and be compliant.
But your experiences, perspective, and wisdom deserve to be heard.
Speaking up doesn’t make you difficult or "too much".
It makes you authentic and authenticity is powerful.
2. You Don’t Have to Shrink Yourself
Lately, there’s been a noticeable trend celebrating smaller, frailer frames, and I can’t help but wonder if it subtly encourages women to shrink themselves.
The world doesn’t need smaller women, it needs women who show up fully as themselves and share ideas, lead conversations, and take up space.
3. Your Life Doesn’t Have an Expiration Date
One of the most damaging messages women hear is that their best years are behind them after a certain age. But as a coach who works with women in their 50s, 60s, 70s, and even 80s, I see the opposite every day. It’s never too late to step into a new chapter and discover just how strong and capable you still are. Growth doesn’t have a deadline.
4. You Don’t Have to Earn Rest
We are often praised for how much we can carry, how much we give and how much we accomplish. But constantly running on empty doing more isn’t strength, it’s exhausting.
Stop treating rest and care as earned luxuries and view them as an essential part of your wellness.
5. Your Strength Is More than Skin Deep
Strength isn’t just physical. It’s speaking your truth, having the courage to begin again, and continuing to move forward when life asks more of you than you expected. It’s choosing to keep showing up for yourself, even when the path feels uncertain. And often, it’s in those moments of challenge that we discover just how resilient we truly are.
One Last Reflection....
One of the things I’ve learned through my work with women is that strength shows up in many different ways. Sometimes it’s setting boundaries, starting over after time away, or taking that first small step toward caring for yourself again. Not to prove anything to anyone, but because you’ve decided to honor yourself.
And for many women, midlife becomes the moment when we begin to rediscover just how strong we truly are.
If even one of these lessons resonates with you, let it be a reminder that your voice, your strength, and your next chapter still matter.
Here’s to women who keep evolving, keep rising, and keep becoming the fullest version of themselves.
Happy International Women’s Day.
