Embrace Your Wellness this Fall: Stay Strong through Menopause!

Happy Fall! This is the time of the year where we love the change of seasons and all of the beauty it brings. But it's also a great time to start or maintain healthy habits as we head towards the last quarter of the year.

Here are 3 key areas to focus on to keep yourself strong and avoid slipping into that slump that can occur as the temps start to cool and the daylight hours shorten.

  1. Stay Consistent with Movement

As the sun sets earlier, it’s tempting to slip into hibernation mode. But staying active is key! Try adjusting your routine by rising a littler earlier or squeezing in some steps during lunch or after work. If outdoor time isn’t possible, grab a jump rope (cordless ones work too!) to keep moving indoors. Aim for at least 2-3 days of strength training each week to boost your metabolism and maintain that muscle mass.

2. Nourish Your Body

Yes, I know we are in officially in pumpkin spice season and the comfort foods are so tempting but focus on eating whole, nutrient-dense meals that provide energy without the crash. You can still enjoy delicious fall flavors by incorporating seasonal fruits and vegetables into healthy stews, casseroles and desserts, just ease up on the added sugar, salt, or butter. And of course, prioritize your lean protein to keep you satiated and feed those muscles!

3. Prioritize Your Sleep and Keep Stress in Check

With longer nights, now is the perfect time to create a bedtime routine that helps you wind down earlier—your body will appreciate the extra rest. Fall is also ideal for starting mindful habits, like diving into a good book, creating a calming stretching routine, begin a journaling practice or even picking up a new hobby like knitting or crocheting to relax before bed.

So as the leaves change color and start to fall, use this season to refocus on your well-being. Stay consistent with movement, nourish your body with wholesome foods, and prioritize both sleep and stress management; you’ll set yourself up for success not just this season, but year-round and into the new year.  By making small, mindful choices, you can create a huge impact on your energy, strength, and overall wellness during menopause. Embrace the shift in seasons as your chance to welcome the changes in your body - use this time to build strength and feel your best from the inside out!
