Sister Check-in!

Hey Sis, how are you doing? We have been dealing with this pandemic for almost a year and let’s face it – it is stressful. And even though it is affecting all of us, it can feel as though we are alone in our battle.

So how are you managing your stress levels? What are your coping mechanisms? Anxiety, uncertainty, fear –these feelings seem to be the norm in these unparalleled times. Add to that the loneliness and BAM! – the stress almost feels palpable. And for many, the stress relievers are food and alcohol.

How can you help yourself through this time?

First, recognize that this is a difficult time and that it’s completely normal to feel anxious and overwhelmed.

Second, analyze how you react and respond to stress. Do you reach for a snack, open a bottle of wine or order fast food? Are you staying up late, binge watching TV while you eat or drink? Once you take notice of how you manage your emotions, you can begin to make changes.

Third, make a plan of action. Think of positive ways you can combat those feelings of angst. Allow yourself a mental break when those emotions arise- take a walk, exercise, meditate, do journal writing or read a book. Give yourself options other than self-soothing through alcohol or food. Make a point to get a minimum of 7 hours of sleep each night. Reduce your consumption of news and social media that can also induce anxiety.

Fourth, don’t go it alone. Change of habits isn’t easy, especially if you don’t have support. Reach out to family and friends for encouragement and accountability – chances are you aren’t the only one going through this. Seek help from a therapist if you find the stress is overwhelming. Hire a fitness trainer/health coach or join a workout group to get you moving and get those endorphins released.

Above all, understand that this difficult time WILL pass, and you WILL get through it. Give yourself grace and be kind to yourself. Think of the changes that you can make today so when this is all over, you can come out on the other end strutting and smiling! Take the steps now so you can be in a position to enjoy your life to the fullest!

You’ve got this, Sis!
